As I was checking in with my Facebook pals today, this came across my feed

and of course I was immediately interested.  This is a cool little boat … er, submarine … er boatmarine? … all kidding aside, this personal submarine, as it’s being dubbed, is just a prototype. If the concept moves forward … and it may very well … it will change how we travel.

Marketing your downtown area

Don’t mix your messages

Today, I have spent a little time looking at some tourism websites, Facebook pages, and Twitter accounts … specifically for small destination marketing organisations (DMO).  I’ve noticed something: these DMOs have Facebook and Twitter set up to promote their destinations to potential travelers. That’s great. What’s not so great is the way these DMOs are mixing their messages.  

Endorsements are lazy

I’m addicted to Mad Men. I’ve been addicted to advertising since I was a little girl … I’m sure it had something to do with both parents being  marketing professionals. Today, I shared both addictions with my senior seminar class.  This class is for soon-to-be university graduates and it prepares them for the workplace.

Regional Sustainable Tourism Development

I’m preparing a lecture that encompasses elements on sustainable tourism development.  First, let me define sustainable tourism:

“The development of a region’s tourism industry in such a way as to not damage or deplete the resources and attractions that make the region attractive to tourists.”
